Welcome to the first-ever Drayton Entertainment Youth Academy Pre-Professional Triple Threat Advanced Training Intensive! If you’re on this page, it means you have received an email confirming your acceptance into the program and have been registered through the Academy portal.
We are very excited to welcome you to the program this August! This page contains all of the information you need regarding participation in the Intensive.

About the Triple Threat Intensive
The Drayton Entertainment Youth Academy’s Triple Threat Intensive week will feature in-person mentor workshops with Canadian Broadway performers plus an exclusive virtual session with Seth Rudetsky, author of the newly published, Musical Theatre for Dummies. All students will receive a copy of the book as part of the program.
On the final night of the program, Friday, August 18, students will celebrate graduation by attending Drayton Entertainment’s production of Kinky Boots at The Hamilton Family Theatre in Cambridge as part of their tuition.

The Triple Threat Intensive will be held at the Drayton Entertainment Youth Academy Facility:

Accessible Access
The DEYA facility is accessible to those with mobile disabilities. There is a ramp leading to the front entrance as well as automatic door controls on the main doors. To access the second floor, there is an elevator located at the rear of the facility.
Both all-gender bathrooms (main floor and second floor) are wheelchair accessible and have automatic door controls.
Kinky Boots Dinner and Show
On the final night of the Intensive, participants are invited to attend dinner and a performance of Kinky Boots at the Hamilton Family Theatre in Cambridge:

Intensive Schedule
Dates: Monday, August 14th – Friday, August 18th
Time: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
Please arrive at the Youth Academy by 9:00 am on August 14th to begin the program. The Academy doors will be open from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm to accommodate early arrival and late exit.

Booking Residence Accommodations
Dormitory-style residence accommodations are available at The University of Waterloo, 20 minutes away from the Academy on public transit. Click below to register for accommodations using the custom registration link for Intensive students.
Summer accommodations at the University of Waterloo are located in both Ron Eydt Village (REV) and Mackenzie King Village.
Mackenzie King Village
Mackenzie King Village is the air-conditioned residence with four bedroom suites. Each bedroom includes a twin sized bed and mattress, desk, desk lamp & chair, dresser & closet, bookshelves & wastebasket (its measurements are approximately 3m x 2.4m). All suites come fully-furnished and include living room (two chairs, loveseat & end tables), kitchen (table with four chairs, fridge & stove), two full bathrooms and two storage closets. The suite is split into two sections with two bedrooms on each side. Each side has its own bathroom and storage closet. The living room, kitchen and entrance are placed between the two sections.
Rates
Regular 2023 rates are $149.00/night during the weekday and $176.00/night for a 4 Bedroom Suite plus applicable taxes. When booking through the link above, the discounted rates below are available:
- $95.00/night for a 4-bedroom apartment with access to two bedrooms (+applicable taxes)
- $108/night with access to 3 bedrooms (+applicable taxes)
- $135.00/night with access to all 4 bedrooms (+applicable taxes)
This rate includes free WiFi, parking for one vehicle, linens & towels upon check in, and weekly linen/towel exchange.
Parking
Free parking is available to guests staying overnight at Mackenzie King Village in Lots “S” & “V” with overflow parking in Lot J. Day guests are also welcome to park in these lots for a fee of $5.00/day. Parking pass can be purchased through the Pay & Display machine located in Lot “S”.
Ron Eydt Village
Summer Accommodations at the University of Waterloo are located in Ron Eydt Village with a selection of double rooms for single/double occupancy. Each floor consists of 24 double rooms with 2 large communal washrooms per floor (1 male and 1 female) along with a common lounge for after-hours networking. Guests are welcome to use the weight room, TV lounge and games area, all located in the Ron Eydt Village. Please note that meeting rooms are air conditioned but guest rooms are not. There are a limited number of fans available on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Rates
Regular 2023 rates are $60.00/night single/double occupancy for a Double Room plus applicable taxes. When booking through the link above, the discounted rate below is available:
- $55.00/night single/double occupancy for a Double Room (+applicable taxes)

Parking

Reservations, Cancellations, and Payment Options
A room block has been arranged at Summer Accommodations. Reservations can to be made by registering online through the custom online reservation form or by calling the Reservation Department directly at 1-800-565-5410. Please note that full payment will be asked upon completing your online reservation. The payment less a 10% service fee is refundable if the reservation is canceled 48 hours prior to arrival.
Methods of payment accepted include cash, institutional cheque, bank draft, Visa, Mastercard and American Express. Please note that personal cheques are not accepted. All late payments are subject to 2% interest per month.
Check In & Check Out
The Front Desk, located in Ron Eydt Village, is open 7 days a week from 7:00am to 12:00am with on call support outside of these hours. Guests check-in is 4:00pm and check-out is prior to 11:00am. For the convenience of all guests “Quiet Hours” are designated from 11:00pm to 7:00am.

Meet your Instructors!

Seth Rudetsky – Virtual Guest Speaker
Author of Musical Theatre for Dummies, is the afternoon host on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio’s ON BROADWAY as well as the host of SETH SPEAKS on Sirius/XM Stars. Seth has played for more than a dozen Broadway shows including RAGTIME, LES MISERABLES and PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. In 2007 he made his Broadway acting debut playing Sheldon in THE RITZ for The Roundabout Theatre. He also co-wrote and starred on Broadway in the New York Times Critics pick musical DISASTER! As an author, he penned Q GUIDE TO BROADWAY, the novel BROADWAY NIGHTS and the young adult story MY AWESOME/AWFUL POPULARITY PLAN (Random House). Seth was the vocal coach on MTV’s LEGALLY BLONDE reality show. During the COVID lockdown, he and his husband James Wesley raised more than $1,000,000 for the Actors Fund with their online show Stars In The House. @sethrudetsky

J Harrison Ghee – Virtual Guest Speaker
J Harrison Ghee is a Fayetteville, North Carolina native who is currently starring on Broadway in the musical, “Some Like It Hot.” Named by Variety Magazine as a “Broadway Star to Watch,” Ghee previously originated the role of Andre Mayém in “Mrs. Doubtfire” and played Lola in “Kinky Boots” in stage productions on Broadway. On television, Ghee has graced the screen on HBO’s “High Maintenance,” Netflix’s “Raising Dion” and Fox’s, “Accused.” Ghee moved to New York City in 2007 to pursue a career in entertainment, studying at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy. Early professional gigs included stints at Tokyo Disney and on cruise ships. Ghee identifies as nonbinary and lives by the mantra, “You have to free yourself to see yourself,” with the hope of inspiring people to dream big and chase those dreams. @jharrisonghee

Paul Alexander Nolan – In Person
Originally from Rouleau, Saskatchewan, is currently playing Hugh Dorsey in the Broadway revival of Parade. Prior to that, he played Jim in the most nominated play in Broadway history, Slave Play. For his Broadway performances, he’s been recognized by the Outer Critics Circle and Drama Desk Awards. His Broadway debut was as Jesus in the revival of Jesus Christ Superstar, followed by Guy in the Tony Award-winning musical Once. Subsequent New York roles include Pasha/Strelnikov in Doctor Zhivago, Jervis in Daddy Long Legs, Jimmy Ray in Bright Star, Billy Flynn in Chicago, Tully in Escape to Margaritaville, Jim in Slave Play and Hugh Dorsey in Parade. Paul is a graduate of the Randolph College for Performing Arts who is an avid outdoorsman and huge hockey fan. @paulalexandernolan

Andrea Macasaet – In Person
Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, is currently playing Mimi in the Stratford Festival Production of Rent. Previously, she originated the role of Anne Boleyn in SIX on Broadway after appearing in the same role at the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, American Repertory Theatre, The Citadel Theatre and The Ordway Center of Performing Arts. Andrea is a graduate from The Canadian College of Performing Arts whose other credits include Canadian productions of Heathers: The Musical, Avenue Q, Miss Saigon and Prairie Nurse. On TV and Film, you may recognize her from Propose We Never See Each Other… (Bed Bugs film); Ratatouille: The Musical (BCEFA); and Guest Performer appearances on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, The View, Late Night with Seth Meyers, Good Morning America, and the Today Show @andrea.cesyl.

Nestor Lozano Jr – In Person
Currently playing Angel Dumott Shunard in Rent and Mrs. Whatsit in A Wrinkle in Time at the Stratford Festival. Previously, he’s been seen as the Wizard/Wicked Witch U/S in Wizard of Oz: The Panto (Drayton Entertainment); Miss Understanding in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (Stage West Calgary); Derrick in Peter Pan: The Panto (Neptune Theatre); Papa Ogre/Bear in Shrek The Musical (Globe Theatre); and Daddy Brubeck in Sweet Charity (Theatre Sheridan).
